Only in the Netherlands

Can't find free Internet to save your life (I'm totally in an alley grafting off someone's wifi), but you can find stairs with a trough to roll your bike up and down. Dunno if that was deliberately engineered as such, but seems to be a popular feature nonetheless.

Bet that was engineered as drainage. Why wouldn't you leave more space for the handlebars, baskets, etc if it was intended for bikes?
Do you already own an Amsterdam bike now? I mean, you have like 8 hours...
Sadly Amsterdam bikes are not as cheap as Indian ones.
You're most likely correct about the drainage. The people looked silly leaning their bikes way over. I guess they don't like the bumpy bumpy.
They do however have these types of troughs for bicycle transport in NYC on the GWB. See: (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YLyZ6B6JInQ/SkJC2kZuIxI/AAAAAAAAE4U/WgPCtAqXlDE/s400/DSCN6129.JPG) They're built-out from the wall for convenient bike portage. Small consolation for making you go up and down metal stairs like this in your cleats. Fun on rainy days!
